Congratulations, you are a contestant in the ultimate reality game show called life! In this world, you wake up tiny with an infinite amount of space around you. You have no past trace of memory and you do not know how to think, speak, or move.
But worry not, you are going to learn everything about the game while you are within the game itself because as the saying goes, life teaches you all the stuff.
Unfortunately, this game comes with the infinite amount of rules and these rules fall into three categories.
Unchangeable Rules: We can also call them natural rules. These rules are unbreakable for instance, Gravity – a mysterious force that drags everything from the game board to the game. Keeping us stuck in this game, making it impossible to escape. Since these rules are unchangeable, they can be ignored.
Inventive Rules: These are the rules that other players just makeup. I assume for fun purposes exclusively. For instance, don’t eat non-veg on Tuesdays or when you’re on your periods, do not enter the kitchen because I guess you aren’t pure. Since these rules are unreasonable, they can be ignored as well.
Make-me-break-me Rules: These are the unfathomable, incomprehensible rules that life hits straight in your face. Now since life gets to be difficult because nothing comes easy, it has set these rules into various levels. In order to reach the next level, you must overcome the one you’re at.
The goal is to complete as many levels as you can so when you reach the end of the game, you can leave with peace and self-assurance.
Here come the levels:
Level 01: Food, Clothing and Shelter – These are the basics, just making sure you have a roof over your head and you aren’t dying any sooner. Once you have got this sorted, we can jump to next level.
Level 02: Hell yeah, I am safe – Making sure you aren’t living in an environment where you can get killed any moment. If you are, what are you waiting for? Leave right now because we have to head to next level.
Level 03: Finding my homies – By now, you probably know that most people are trash and it isn’t easy to find people who are just right. This level compels you to navigate through hideous amounts of people just to find real relationships.
Level 04: Doing something purposeful – It simply means, doing something that gives you a sense of fulfilment, feeds you with enlightenment, and clouts you with respect.
Level 05: Rest in peace – Making sure that when the game is about to end you have no regrets. At the end, we always desire to make a better place of what we had.
Now with great grief, I must say that these levels are an indispensable part of the game and therefore, they cannot be ignored. Thus, one must enter each level with great precision and care.
The complexity of this game sets each individual on different levels. The ones gifted with awesome parents might have crossed level 03 while the ones on level 01 aren’t even reading this. No matter which level you are at, life is going to throw various obstacles in your path, giving you various road maps to your destination.
You will come across unforeseen challenges, you will get frustrated, you will struggle, feel overwhelmed and sometimes you might want to quit. And if you can empathise with these emotions, hang on because here is a guide on how to win at life and it’s incredibly simple.
It’s no biggie, do not fear
The foremost reason why a player quits this game is fear. How many of us would stop aiming for success because of fear? We sabotage our own happiness and live miserable, unhappy lives because we fear failures. What we fail to see is that we are just a small specimen of the universe, a tiny drop in the ocean and we have very little time in this board game. So stop living in the delusion that success is just a dream and rewire your brain in a new way so you can think, act and become.
Quit running away and face your problems
There are two kinds of people, the ones that face their problem and the ones who try to escape. The one in the danger zone is the latter because there is no escape from problems. Not solving them only makes mountains of molehills.
Escapers often try quitting their problems by getting seduced with some form of distraction, for instance, watching senseless YouTube videos instead of dealing with a hurting relationship. Remember, we become what we choose. If you choose a distraction to escape from a problem, you will become prone to it and if you choose a solution to solve your problem, you will eventually level up your game.
Start off with small successes
A great life is not built by a revolution but by the evolution of small and steady wins. What you do every day is your life in a miniature. What you did the last hour is crafting your future. So, go clean your room, hit the gym, or finish that assignment because all of it together is seminal to your success.
Failure isn’t lethal unless you let it be
In fact, failure is inevitable and is the price of greatness. Everything you want is on the other side of failure. Some players often quit because of the disappointments failures get them but the ones that stay are bound to find success.
As Pauline Estrem writes, when we take a closer look at the great thinkers throughout history, a willingness to take on failure isn’t a new or extraordinary thought at all. From the likes of Augustine, Darwin and Freud to the business mavericks and sports legends of today, failure is as powerful tool as any in reaching great success.
Talk it out
Yes, let it out, that wouldn’t make you a maniac. Believe me, most people are messed up. We all have issues, and none of us is ready to admit it. You might not reach your success because of some past experiences or haunting memories. Or maybe you have deep rooted toxic habits that are ruining your present and hindering your future success. So let the darkness out, let it see some light. There is no need to cave it in.
Now that you know the guide on how to win at life, go ahead player, be the person who walks outside this game with a smile content with the journey. Be the person who reminisces all the turns of failures that shaped who you are and all the success that lifted you up.
And lastly, keep in mind the old saying, everyone dies but a few truly live.
