In a release, SpiceJet described the ‘Diwali Sale Dhamaka’ offer as being on a first-come-first-serve basis with a nine-months travel window. Travel industry sources say that IndiGo followed the discount offerings by SpiceJet.
SpiceJet put over 300,000 seats across its network on sale offering fares starting as low as Rs 749/- base fare (excluding taxes) for the domestic sector and Rs 3,999/- all in for the international sectors respectively.
Tickets on sale can be booked from October 27 to October 29, 2015, for travel between February 1, 2016, and October 29, 2016.
Discount offerings by SpiceJet that was followed by IndiGo led to about 200% increase in bookings for these airlines, say travel portals, as quoted by Economic Times.
“The one-way fare applicable on direct flights encompasses all the metro cities and some of the most attractive tourist destinations in the country. Under this offer, tickets on routes like Delhi to Amritsar, Ahmedabad to Mumbai all are priced at Rs 749 base fare (taxes will be additional). While within the international sector, the sale offering has been geared up for hot spots like Chennai to Colombo at Rs 3,999 all-in among others,”
SpiceJet announced in a release.
Passenger traffic growth this year has shown strong growth as airlines have frequently announced promotional scheme. Passengers carried by domestic airlines during the nine months of this year, from January to September, rose 20 percent to 590 lakh.
Later after this announcement, AirAsia has also joined the league and reacted with the similar offer, leading to a tremendous surge in travel booking on the airline portal.
AirAsia has announced special flight fares of Rs 1,590 for travel from Bengaluru to Visakhapatnam, Goa, Kochi, and Pune, with travel dates starting immediately to February 29, 2016. On International routes, you can buy tickets from Kochi, Tiruchirappalli, Visakhapatnam, Goa, Chennai, Hyderabad to Kuala Lumpur at Rs 3,999 all inclusive. The offer is open till November 1, for travel dates starting immediately till February 29, 2016.
